Once upon in a time, in a land before tinder, Megan Elk’s life was one sad song.
But now…Megan’s getting married. Hear the tale of woe before the final rose in a hilarious evening of Ms. Elk’s critically acclaimed original cabaret songs, along with well loved show tunes, pop songs, and standards.
Megan Elk is a performer, composer, and vocal coach from Pittsburgh, PA. Following a BA in Theatre at The University of Akron, Ms. Elk joined the internationally acclaimed New World Performance Laboratory. As ensemble member and resident composer of the group, she toured devised performances and facilitated voice and movement workshops throughout Europe and the United States. Ms. Elk is an active performer of Opera and Musical Theatre, having appeared with Cleveland Public Theatre, The Cleveland Orchestra, Opera Cleveland, and Sugar Creek Symphony and Song. Her 2014 album of original cabaret songs, Miss Alexandra Huntingdon: LIVE at Survival Kit, earned her the distinction of Best Singer and Best Musician 2015 (Cleveland Scene Magazine). In 2016, Megan was commissioned by Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Chicago Voices program to write the musical FREEDOM:Out of Order, in collaboration with Tellin’ Tales Theatre. She continues her work with the program as a songwriting teacher for special Lyric workshops this summer. Megan is a recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Award for Meritorious Achievement in Music Composition and The Gene Kelly Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre.
