Local pianist and songwriter Paul Sottnik takes an evening to showcase his original songs about sleeping in late, mythical creatures, dead plants, coffee and other strange familiarities. Expect to hear subtle notes of jazz and musical theater that reflect his varied freelance jobs in Chicago. His songs are highly influenced by Ben Folds, Sufjan Stevens, Esperanza Spalding, Gabriel Kahane and other contemporary artists. Additional topics he will sing about include wanderlust, forgetfulness, cheap wine, Blockbuster, cafes, paganism, laundry, unrequited love and garage sales.
