Now in its 96th year, the Chicago Bar Association Bar Show is an irreverent musical comedy revue parodying local and national political, sports, and showbiz figures. Performed to audiences totaling in the thousands at the Merle Reskin Theater each December, the show features an all-attorney cast singing and dancing to a full spectrum of Broadway classics, traditional rock and pop favorites, and current hits. More information, including clips from past shows, can be found at https://www.chicagobar.org/chicagobar/CBA/Programs/Bar_Show_Main_Page.
The Bar Show Cabaret is a more intimate traveling version of the Bar Show. Directed by Marla Lampert and with the musical direction of Brad MacDonald (who will also accompany), a small group of performers will sing a variety of songs from current and past editions of the show as characters ranging from the inescapable Donald J. Trump to the notorious Lori Loughlinand Felicity Huffman. The parodies will mix skilled performances of familiar tunes with new and surprising wordplay touching on current events, politics, and pop culture.
The Bar Show has a built in audience likely to enjoy this fresh, close-up spin on its traditional show, while broader audiences for cabaret and live music of all kinds should feel welcomed and entertained.
